Claiming your lottery winnings

See the steps after a winning draw, the required documents, processing timelines and important deadlines. BCLC handles prize validation and payment; this website does not.

You have one year to claim

A Daily Grand prize expires one year after the date of the draw in which it was won. After that it cannot be paid, whatever the reason for the delay, and nobody is obliged to remind you. The same applies to a Free Play you have won but not used.

The route depends on the amount

Daily Grand for-life prizes — $1,000 a day for life and $25,000 a year for life — are never credited automatically. They follow BCLC's for-life prize claim process below, by appointment, including your one-time choice between the annuity and the cash payout.

These thresholds follow BCLC's published claim procedure (Claim a prize ) and can change. The procedure published at the time of your claim is the one that applies.

Step by step

How major and for-life claims are processed

1

Check the official result

Check your ticket against the winning combination issued by BCLC after the draw. Neither this portal's results nor any unofficial source should be treated as authoritative.

2

Secure the play record

Keep the account open and its information unchanged. Only the central gaming system's record is definitive; screenshots cannot serve as valid proof.

3

Contact us

Start the claim by emailing [email protected]. We will tell you what to bring and arrange the appointment. Get independent legal and financial advice before you attend.

4

Verify your identity

You will need photo ID issued by the government and evidence that you are a B.C. resident aged 19 or older. Payment goes solely to the verified holder of the account, not to another person.

5

Elect annuity or cash

You choose once, at the time of claim, and the choice is final. An annuity already in payment cannot be converted to cash later. Where more than one play wins the same for-life tier, only the cash payout is available.

6

Validation and payment

The entry is checked against BCLC's central records, and any award is issued in Canadian currency. Annuity payments begin following verification.

Before you claim

Four important details before you claim

Your name will be published

Publication is a condition of receiving a major prize, not an optional extra. Your full name, your city or town, the game and the prize amount are published, along with a photograph, so that the public can verify prizes are genuinely paid. Anonymity is granted only in exceptional, documented circumstances. If you are unwilling to be identified, you should not play.

How a for-life prize is actually paid

It is an annuity, paid in periodic instalments rather than literally daily, and guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years. If the winner dies inside that period, the remaining guaranteed payments go to the named beneficiary or the estate. After the guarantee period, payments stop on death.

Tax

The winnings themselves are not taxed in Canada. Income earned on them afterwards is — interest, dividends, rent and capital gains all count. A large win is a reason to get independent tax advice before you spend or invest anything.

Nobody legitimate will ask you to pay

Collecting a lottery award never requires a deposit, tax, processing charge or release fee. Legitimate representatives will not announce a win for a game you never entered or demand passwords, card details or gift cards. Treat such requests as scams and report them.

Need help with a prize claim?

Prize decisions are made by us against the validated central record. If you do not agree with one, there is a defined route — including escalation to the independent regulator.

Every prize is validated against the central gaming system before it is paid. See section 10 of our terms.
